Farhan Jimale: The Voice, Integrity, and Strategic Vision to Anchor Somalia’s Human Rights Progress
For over three decades, Farhan Jimale (Farhan Mohamed Jimale) has been one of Somalia’s most trusted voices. Now appointed as a Commissioner, he steps into the role with a rare blend of moral courage, narrative power, technical expertise, and a lifelong commitment to justice.
Farhan’s career expanded internationally when he joined the United Nations OCHA, documenting the experiences of IDPs and refugees. From 2007 to 2022, he was a senior manager and journalist for the BBC Somali Service in London, reaching over four million people weekly. His reporting highlighted human rights violations, political repression, and structural injustice.
In 2022, he transitioned into public service as the Government Spokesperson and Director of Communications at the Office of the Prime Minister. He spearheaded communication strategies on government transparency, peacebuilding, and Somalia’s accession to international human rights treaties.
Farhan’s appointment represents a transformative shift as he brings a voice trusted by millions and a record of resisting political pressure to the Commission.
