On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), Dr. Maryan Qasim Ahmed, received Tom Haeck, OHCHR Regional Representative for East Africa, at the Commission’s office in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Commission and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), particularly on building the Commission’s institutional capacity, enhancing its independence, and improving its working methods, reaffirming the Commission’s constitutional mandate to protect and promote human rights in Somalia in line with the Paris Principles.
