On Saturday, 12 September 2026, the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), Dr. Maryan Qasim, received the new Resident Representative of UNDP Somalia, Mr. Christophoros Politis, and the delegation he led, at the Commission’s office in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Commission and UNDP Somalia, particularly on institutional development, capacity building, accountability and transparency, as well as strengthening human rights monitoring mechanisms, reporting, and complaints-handling.
Mr. Politis reaffirmed UNDP’s continued commitment to supporting the Commission in becoming a strong, independent institution capable of effectively serving the Somali people.
The meeting, attended by several Commissioners, the Commission’s Director General, and advisors, concluded with both sides agreeing to advance a long-term partnership that strengthens the Commission’s work and supports it in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
