Mogadishu, September 19, 2026 — Commissioner Farhan Mohamed Jimale of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) today took part in a scientific panel discussion organized by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in Mogadishu, held to mark International Identity Day.
The forum was also attended by several ministers of the Federal Government, officials from government institutions, representatives of civil society, and other guests. The discussion focused on the importance of legal identity, the role national identification plays in facilitating access to government services and basic rights, and how to ensure the identification system is inclusive and leaves no one behind.
Speaking at the forum, Commissioner Farhan Jimale stressed that identification is not merely a card or a number issued to a person, but an important tool that can make it easier for individuals to access their rights and essential services.
