On Sunday, 20 September 2026, the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission, H.E. Dr Maryan Qasim, led a delegation from Commission in a meeting with the Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament, H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, at his office in Mogadishu.
Discussions focused on the Commission’s mandate, ongoing work and priorities, as well as strengthening institutional cooperation between Parliament and the Commission while safeguarding its independence in line with the Paris Principles.
he meeting also highlighted the importance of regular reporting to Parliament, adequate institutional support to enable the Commission to effectively discharge its mandate, and continued engagement on the promotion, protection and monitoring of human rights across #Somalia.
The Speaker welcomed the Commission’s work and underscored the importance of a strong, independent and effective national human rights institution.
