On Wednesday, 19 August 2026, the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), Dr. Maryan Qasim Ahmed, met with the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Hoosh).
The meeting was also attended by the Director General of NIHRC, Mr. Mustafa Ahmed Mahmoud, and the Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Mr. Abdulqadir Ali.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between government institutions. Both sides exchanged views on shared priorities and explored further opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry and the Commission.
Both sides emphasised the importance of incorporating human rights considerations and protections into efforts on stabilisation, reconciliation and strengthening accountability, noting that the protection of the rights and safety of vulnerable communities remains central to the Somali government’s agenda.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued cooperation between government institutions and NIHRC in strengthening the protection, respect and promotion of human rights in Somalia.
