On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), Dr. Maryan Qasim, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali Dhaay, in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and the Commission, particularly regarding Somalia’s participation in international human rights mechanisms and the Commission’s ongoing efforts to secure international recognition.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating the Commission’s international engagements and relationships, while fully respecting the Commission’s independence and its constitutional mandate.
